 VANCOUVER, February 9, 2022 / Vancouver-based Peqish Food Company is excited to announce the launch of its Food Created by Doctors & Chefs certification program, which is a label defining products as being healthier for consumers.

Today’s food choices include an overwhelming amount of information from influencers and self-appointed experts with little or no scientific or clinical training, often resulting in inaccurate or misleading health claims. The Food Created by Doctors & Chefs program helps consumers navigate the sea of health claims by being securely anchored in clinical science.

Peqish Food Company was founded with a mission to help consumers make better food choices. The company is led by a pair of doctors, motivated by the fact that ultra-processed foods and “poor quality diets pose a greater risk to humans when compared to unsafe sex, alcohol, drugs and tobacco used combined.” - Willett et al (2019) Lancet 393:447-492. The company knew that to really stand out in a sea of competitive health claims it needed to do more to address the use crafty marketing messages and misinformation.

Peqish began by forming a team of clinical experts who would rigorously scrutinize the ingredients and health benefits of every product the brand created. This multi-disciplinary team includes gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, practicing clinical researchers and nutritionists. The team is tasked with applying health and clinical evidence to guide recipe creation and ingredient selection, with a focus on delicious and nutritious creations.

Food Created by Doctor’s & Chefs Certification Is Born

The result has been the creation of the Food Created by Doctors & Chefs label licensing and certification program. The certification is built on a proprietary scoring algorithm, which the company has received federal innovation and research funding to continue to develop. The system looks at three key components of food: the nutritional value, the manufacturing process, and the clinical and health implications of consumption.

Originally developed for Peqish, the label is now available to all health-conscious food producers. Every single ingredient and product that carries the “Food Created by Doctors & Chefs” insignia is carefully evaluated as part of the certification process and has passed the test.

 Certified products will carry the Doctors & Chefs label, which is built on the philosophy that producers must be transparent with what exactly goes into the food; simple, clean ingredients make the best food for you and your health. The overall goal is to further the mission of helping people to adopt healthier food and beverage choices and raising their awareness of the importance of nutritious diets.
